Windy Leaves
WHOOOOoo00ooowwwooooOO
Cloudy, gray, and windy today in Tennessee. I had this finished in time to take it to my guild meeting for show and tell, but it rained the last couple of days so I couldn't get a good picture of it outside.
Tried to put the finished leaf quilt up on the fence to take a picture, but the breeze wasn't cooperating!
I found these little spring loaded clamps at the store (like clothespins that open big enough to fit a fence board) but that didn't help me with the bottom. The first shows the backing. I used plaid both because it reminds me of Fall - did you ever have a plaid dress for the first day of school, or a plaid bookbag? And because I got a LOT of this 100% cotton shirting stuff when the local fabric giant went out of business. The quilt is just over a yard square, so I wanted something lightweight, it will be used as a wall hanging mostly.
This is the picture where the wind was blowing the least. The prairie points looked better before the quilt was washed. Now I think I need to iron them flat again. Should I try to put some spray starch on them?
Oh, I love, love, love your leaf quilt! And the windy day photo is perfect---because that is just how it is here in Missouri today--leaves blowing all around!!! I bet you planned it that way LOL.
ReplyDeleteOh, the windblown leaves are delightful! I love the prairie points!
ReplyDeleteJeanne :)
This is really nice. I like the praire points. Clever idea. Leaves should be blown in the wind, I like how that worked out for you.
ReplyDeleteOoh I REALLY like that pattern against a dark ground and the prairie points are well worth all the fabric they use up - it's turned out beautifully even if the wind didn't want you to show it us :o)
ReplyDeleteIt's done- and it turned out so well! Love all your adaptions, especially summoning up some wind to blow the autumn leaves for your photograph! LOL
ReplyDeleteYour Leaf Season quilt came out wonderfully. The dark background makes it more Fallish - and the prairie points add the right finishing touch. I also like the plaid backing. Great job!!!!
ReplyDeleteyour quilt looks fantastic. I love your idea of adding the prairie points. Well done on completing it.
ReplyDeleteThe prairie points are a nice echo of the 1/2square triangles. Nice quilte.
ReplyDeleteYES!! I love your leafs! and if they were at my house they would be blowing off the trees, gently but still blowing. The prairie points are wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYour windy leaves look wonderful, and the prairie points are a great touch. I've never used them before, so I can't give any advice about starch, but I guess it can't hurt?
ReplyDelete*hugs*

ReplyDeleteI love your photos, especially the wind blown ones, that's really true to your theme.it made the quilt look happy and alive!( almost kite like! )
ReplyDeleteWow! Your quilt looks great - I love the plaid back, too.
ReplyDeleteVery nice quilt! Good Job!!
ReplyDeleteI've heard that leaving spray starch on quilts is not a good idea because the starch attracts bugs.
the prairie points are a great finish to the edge!
ReplyDeleteLove your bright leaves on the dark bkgrd. The wind is the perfect effect for fall leaves! Your turkey and cat remind me of Turkey and Lurkey! (From Chicken Little story of old).
ReplyDeleteGreat Job---I can just tell you had fun... and that's what it's all about....sounds like Halloween weather.
ReplyDeleteYour leafs look great with the prairie points. Well done. It got very nice with green background.
ReplyDeleteWOW WOW your quilts turned out great! I tried to take photos to but could not because we have very windy weather in Chicago too.
ReplyDeleteThe prairie points are a nice touch on the Leaf Season quilt. Have you sent a photo to Judy for her webshots page?

ReplyDeleteThe prairie points look terrific on the edge.
ReplyDeleteYou know when we were pinning my plaid bricks quilt yesterday Jane was talking about plaid dresses for school. I did have one, of course. Think it was the growing up in the 50's??
