Here's four little incubator quiltlets I made for donation to our local children's hospital, Lebonheur Children's Medical Center, here in Memphis. I made the first two bargello quilts during Bonnie from Quiltville's Superbowl Bargello Day, back in 2008.
I can't decide if I like the bright version better (below) or the pastel version better.
This pastel quiltlet was made from a collection of nine patches I had left over from a class several years ago. I matched them with pink squares and made the half square triangles, then added the pink sashing.
And finally, a teeny little Heartstrings quilt made from 6½ inch square string blocks. It seems like I always end up with a surplus of short strings, so this was a good place to use them.
The incubator blankets had to be 24 inches square, and they're used not on top of the preemie, but on top of the incubator itself, to add both insulation and to block a little of the light for the babies. I hope they find a good home. ;)
All four were quilted and bound by my friend from the Uncommon Threads Quilt Guild, Marge N. She does superb quilting, as you can see. I'm just in awe. I think my favorite is the teeny stars and loops on the pastel bargello, the first one on the top ... but the feathers on the heartstrings one are so well done too.

Gosh Jane, your little quilts are adorable, it has been on my mind to make some of these for a long time - yours may be just the inspiration I need.
Love the quilting too - great work.

Absolutely lovely little quilts! Making the itty bitties is one of my favorite things to do! And yours are just darling!!! After hand delivering one of my own to a young couple this summer, and seeing their amazement and gratitude, I truly realize just what these little quilts mean to the new parents of a premature baby. And you sure did good...in all ways :)
Jane-- How cute! I was just thinking how great your machine quilting was when you said Marge did them. I love doing the small quilts. Haven't done that many but I do enjoy them.
What a fantastic way to use leftover blocks - I think I might get started this weekend!
Adorable little quilts with beautifull quilting. And for such a good cause, too. Great job.
Your wee quilts are just delightful. Congratulations. The babies are sure to benefit are all those around who see the bright colours.
These are all wonderful. How sweet and generous of you to make them for the preemies. I am sure they will be much loved and appreciated.
They will be a bright and cheery spot for loved ones to look at while visiting the baby... and will help keep the light away from the extra sensitive eyes. Very nice collection there! Cheers!
They're all so cute, but I especially like the colors in the first & last ones...I think it's the orchid/purple that grabs me. Some little babies are going to be very lucky to get these.
I'm a little late commenting here, but these little quilts are wonderful.
I'm not sure how I missed these but they're so cute! I haven't made any really small quilts for donation like these but a group in Sarasota wrote me that they were making incubator quilts from the Happy Blocks.
What is the contact info for donating these to LeBonheur? [our eldest son works there as a sr. media guru]
Thanks!
The color of the binding on the first one is spot on! Looks like a multi-colored Fossil fern...
