Here's yet another Heartstrings quilt top made from the blocks my guild did for their block of the month:
This one's just a tad over 44 x 44 inches square. I picked out 8 of the blocks that had a slightly maverick interpretation of the heartstrings guidelines... you'll see some that have no red stripe at all, no centered red stripe, or too small or too large of a red or blue stripe. In this layout, with the red not forming a lattice, the variations don't matter at all.
I didn't chop one up to make the cornerstones, but instead made 4 new little blocks the size of my inner navy border that 'floats' the star.
Now that I look at it, if I were to do it again, I'd rotate those cornerstones so that the strips go diagonally the other way, but I'm certainly not going to rip them out and rotate them now... :)

Those string blocks look great no matter how you arrange them. The navy background really sets them off.
Amazing how so many different blocks from so many different quilters can look like they belong together from the start.
I like the way the star floats. And with the direction of the diagonal corner squares the way it is, they lead the eye into the center. Fun!
I like the cornerstones just fine. Makes the star "radiate". Great-looking quilt!
It looks great - you certainly met the challenge of using an assorted group of blocks. I might have to make a smaller quilt or two.
What a great job you've made of turning those mavericks into a wonderful top :)
Very striking, Jane!
It is neat to see a string quilt that is smaller. I like the random red.
I like the new banner (new to me, anyway!). The heartstrings top is great. I love what you've done with these - made them more than just scrappy strings.
This is a beautiful quilt. A very clever setting for these string blocks.
Oh wow!!! What a fantastic looking string star! I love it - and you say you made this with "maverick" blocks??? I would have never known as they look perfect to me!
I can't wait to see what pattern of qilting is used in that purple/plum background - a great place to really bring the quilt to life! :c)
Great Job!!! Mind if I save a copy of the pic for inspriation? ~Bonnie in SE Texas.
This really came out great! I like how the cornerstones are just fine!
the string quilt looks great. I've made a string quilt a few years back in 30's prints but i would love to make another one out of all my scraps. Hopefully once i have finished up a few more UFOs i will make one.
great looking quilt top Jane- like how those colors play together
A real eye catcher :-) I love those string blocks and have not yet seen one I do not like.
Very pretty. All the variations I have seen are amazing!
Hi Jane, love the setting for those odd heartstring blocks...very striking! And thanks for sharing your daffodils...absolutely marvelous color. Hugs, Finn
Scrappy with black is so effective but Jane your star is just stunning! It makes me think I should dig my crumbs quilt out of the cupboard and get it finished.
I love this arrangement! You did a great job. You have taken these string quilts way beyond the basics!
