Bloglines Folders

Did you know that you can take all your blog feeds (if you use bloglines, which is wonderful) and set them up in different folders?

I've just gone thru my comments for the last month, mainly looking for people who stopped by and had a comment for me, but who aren't on a ring yet, whose blogs I haven't visited.

Interestingly enough, I found that of the 75+ people that I have listed on bloglines, (mostly mavericks and stashbusters) only 40 of those have left me a comment in the last month. And of those 40, there are only 24 that have commented more than once in the last month. Sooooo, I've now got three folders set up, and they're divided neatly into categories:
'People Who Comment a LOT'
'People Who Comment SOME'
and
'People Who Rarely Say Anything'

It's easy to move people from one folder to another, and will certainly make it simple to reciprocate comment wise. And if you don't ever leave ME a comment, then I'll still read your blog, but feel a lot less guilty about not commenting myself.

Bloglines even gives me a separate unread total for each folder, AND I can click on the folder and open all the blogs in that folder at once. :) Pretty cool!

*laugh* I know I fall under the "People Who Rarely Say Anything".

I find myself wanting to make helpful comments, not "oh, that's nice!" Not saying that I don't compliment other works, but I don't always have the time to comment.

I'm lazy too... I just have all my feeds in one spot, but they do come in order of the most recently posted.

Funny, this post will probably generate some comments. I find with bloglines I read more than I comment especially when I fall behind. It's easier to skim to see what everyone is up to than to go to every site and comment.

On my blog, I'm always surprised at which of my entries generate more comments but don't let it worry me too much. I've really gotten into blogging as a personal journal so comments or not it's serving it's purpose. What is even more surprising is to get emails out of the blue from people who say they always read my blog but who have never left a comment.

Okay, I am guilty of being one of the lazy ones that reads and doesn't comment. I will get better! I hate just saying the same as someone else though.

I haven't gotten brave enough as yet to try Bloglines.

Something I probably should do, but just keep putting it off. I try to get to as many as I can every day or two. Not sure there really is an solution as the numbers grow.
Glad you found something that works for you. Hugs, Finn

love the idea for your folder categories -- my folders are currently: Friends, stash ring, maverick ring, other quilters, creativity, crazy qulting, and a few other special interest folders.... I probably do comment on the same few each time, so will think about folders based on my reading habits...

Hmmm . . . interesting! I've not taken time to look at any of the features of Bloglines - other than the fact it tells me which blogs to read because there is a new post. That alone saves me lots and lots of time. One of these days I'll have to check out some of the other stuff. I like the idea of opening all the blogs at the same time - lots less clicking!

This was interesting. I like to comment and look at other blogs, and I love to get comments on my posts. Sometimes I have a comment on a blog and sometimes not. That depends what they are writing about. I have not tryed out bloglines like this but perhaps I will....someday.

Funny.:o) I'm sure this post is going to generate quite a few comments.
I am one who rarely comments. I find that I get behind in my reading and have all I can do to keep up much less comment. I didn't log in and check my Bloglines one weekend and I had almost 200 posts to read

Suddenly you are going to be innundated with comments because people will want to get into the "comments often" folder. I use bloglines and wouldn't be without it now. I aslo added a counter that tells me how many people read my blog and from where. I was amazed at the number of visitors compared to comments. I started my blog so family living far away could watch the progress of their quilts and it grew from there. I now think of it mainly as a diary for myself though.

Good idea! I love getting comments, but I find that more than anything my blog helps me get motivated so I have something to post. I've been posting way more pictures of plain fabric than actual sewing lately, so I am excited to have some tops to post soon.

I always try to comment as much as I can, but when I look at it I mostly comments when something is finished, but I do always read all the blogs.

By the way. You asked about the fans if they were appliqued or Y corners and it is done with Ycorners. Only the round is applique

I have been using folder since setting up bloglines. Most folders are subject titles.

I try to read blogs daily. I now have 202 feeds. Why so many because I just love see what others are doing. I do not post comments daily but try to do so at least once a week. I do not expect a return response but when I get one it is great. I try to return a response from comments in my blog within my next days posting or send a private email.

I am still learning blogger etiquette and hope not to get anyone mad at me.

i don't use Bloglines. I have two folders in my Bookmark/Favourites. One is for all the bloggers i read daily and the other one is for those i read occasionally. My lists change too depending on who has left comments on my Blog.

How funny - o.k. inciteful - make me wonder.... (Where does big mouth Amy fall?) Great idea! (I deleted some blogs that I knew were a one way street...)

I also use bloglines but according to subject. *sewing*crafts*recipes*kids*...

I think it's a great way to keep up with others.

LOL! I'm another "rarely comments". I mostly read at work when I have odd moments or in the middle of the night when I'm not able to sleep. At work I rarely have time to put into making a bunch of comments and at night It's not all that easy to type from a wireless keyboard in my lap as I lay in my recliner. LOL! Although my touch typing has gotten MUCH better since I started blogging!

I do need to check into putting my feeds into folder as I have over 150 now and it gets to be a bit offputting to sign on and have 50+ new updates each time. So I tend to randomly pick thru them and then find I've not read someone for several days. Maybe folders and then open one a day would be the way for me to go without getting overwhelmed. I've thought about cutting some of the blogs I read but then I don't want to miss anything. LOL!
