Ok, I was over at Rantala Rags, and SHE had another 16 patch block that I just had to go try as an alternate block with the depression blocks... :)
I think I like the star blocks alternating better, but this one is interesting. The pinwheel/windmills jump out too much for my preference, but I also see a stronger diagonal line, which is kind of neat. Does anyone know what this block is called?

Wow, way cool design! I said I was sick of HSTs... right? Quit tempting me! ;)
Anyhow, I think that block is called Jack-In-the-Box... but I'm basing this on the 101 Fabulous Rotary-Cut quilt book. I'm not getting any luck with a web search.
You are right this fits in real well. I did look at your depression/star quilt idea this morning and thought it was spectacular. I like your ideas. I might have to save them and try them out if you don't mind.
I like the star blocks better too, in this settinng, but I really like this "new" block, too. No idea what it is called, though.
Neat sign-- but I'm a cheerleader for the star blocks. What a good way to plan a quilt!!!
I think it is the scrappiness that appeals most about your proposed quilts. Although I like them both, I think I would be more inclined to make the one with the stars first--only because I love stars!
Someone is having way too much fun playing with EQ - and didn't invite me to play along! LOL I like the pinwheel blocks, but prefer the stars in combination with the depression blocks.
That pinwheel block gives it a whole new look. I really like it! It seems more original than the star. Of course the star is great, we all love stars! Doesn't all depend on the mood you are in at the moment?
