Twist layout sounds like a gymnastic move, doesn't it?
I don't have a design wall, just a card table with a piece of plywood on it to make it larger - so I usually take my blocks to work, at the library, and shove two large library tables together to layout my quilts. I've found I can go in early and get a lot done before the library opens to the public. :)
But tonight, after getting all my quarter blocks sewn, I couldn't resist laying some of them out to see what they look like. (Yes, Ann, to me it's still Wednesday night, not Thursday, lol) I think I was picking the top fabrics off each stack, so you don't see some of the variety of the fabrics I've used. I actually went through and grabbed all the FQ I didn't like, and divided them into lights and darks. All of these greens were too olive toned to go in the blue/teal/forest Delectable Mountain quilt I did. All the yellows too mustardy, etc. But all together, I like these!
My only question, for any of you that have done this one... I cut 8½ inch squares, then cut them on the diagonal to make the triangles, right? Then sewed them ... now these blocks are about 8¼ square. Should I trim them to 8 inches now? or sew the quarters together and trim the whole block to ... eww, what? Anyone?

Are they pretty consistent? If so, I'd probably sew them together first, and then do a final trim. They might turn out to be nicely all 16 1/2, and then when they're assembled they would be 16.

very pretty!! I havn't done this pattern, so I don't have any advice on the trimming.
I would sew them together first. If they are of consistant size I wouldn't worry about trimming them. Who says a block has to measure an even number of inches or half inches? If they vary in size then measure the smallest one and trim the others down to that size. It will make sewing the blocks together so much easier.
I agree with Patti...sew all your blocks together b4 trimming any..It's looking really nice, though! Now back to listing my UFO's........ewww..lol
Another vote for Patti's solution. If they are consistent why trim. That would be wasting and you might run out of fabric. :oD
Ditto what Patti said. Or be really wild and just sew them together even if they're different sizes and then whack off whatever extra hangs off the sides...
By the way: wheeeeeee they look fun all laid out together.
There is no reason to trim them if the quilt is made entirely out of this size and they are all the same size as eachother!
There is no reason for a block having to measure an exact inch or 1/2 inch measurement unless you need that measurement to add other blocks to it, or to fit on a pieced border, etc. So I say, let them be, so them together as is! :c)
