More Choices

Went to Blockbase today, and dug around for more blocks that would look good next to a 16 patch Depression block. I did find the one I used this morning, it was called "Colorado Star" when it was first published. Then I found two more:

Then I used EQ again to make a quilt that used all the blocks I liked so far... so I could compare them next to each other.

On the top third, the regular star, on the middle third, the electric fan block, and on the bottom third, the pieced star. The electric fan is not really a 16 patch block, but I DO like the curves that it makes around the depression block. Now my problem is, which do I choose?

I kind of like the middle one because of the curves but the bottom one is also very nice. More delicate but probably also a lot more work in the piecing. Maybe you will have to make three quilts!

I really liked the first choice when you posted it and have been thinking about making it. But now I see the one with the electric fan and I'm in LOVE! I really like the movement you get and think this will be my next project after I finish the one I'm currently working on. (Subject to change of course if something else strikes my eye before I get started. LOL!)

I like the flow of all. I would make it like this and have a very interesting and wonderful quilt. I might have to copycat you if you don't mind.

Regular stars at the top look the simplest and most traditional to me. The middle electric fan is interesting with the curve effect. I think the bottom pieced star is kinda too piecy -- the pattern looks shattered and almost lost to me.
But this is only my opinion :)

LOVE the electric fan version!! Love them all, actually.

Odd, in my EQ5, it calls the Electric Fan block "Square Dance".

And since you've now posted too many tempting variations, I'm gonna go running away, screaming on top of my lungs...

Just kidding! ;)

Electric Fan has my vote... I think I will draw this up as well and leave it in my SOMEDAY EQ File.

I think you should make the quilt as drawn -- with all three variations in it! I would be so interesting to look at -- and how are you ever going to choose just one?

The traditional name for your "scrappy star" is Barbara Fretchie's star. I don't know who Barbara Fretchie was, but that's the name given that block in many of the block books I have.

ELECTRIC FAN! (You don't often see that secondary design - the others are more common.)

I love the way it is with the 3 together. I like the way it transitions. Really cool.
