Almost done.

Well, I'm still not finished, but hey, it's only Saturday. :) I've got three more rows of 6 stars to go. Here it is at the 6 blocks by 5 blocks stage - I went on and took a picture of it now, because soon it'll be too long to fit on the fence without hanging on the grass.

And still playing in Corel, I decided to see what it'd look like if I had set the blocks on point. I rotated the picture 45° then cropped it to make it square again:

Interesting look that way! It would have meant a lot of white triangles around the edge, though. I think I like the straight set better. Easier too.

This whole quilt was pretty easy, doing it in snowballs, nine-patches, and cobblestones. I was trying to give the impression of white sashing around the stars, with colored cornerstones. Back up far enough from your monitor and you can see I could have made the stars as one block, then added sashing and come up with the same design.

I'll put a 2½ inch border of white all the way around this, so the edge color squares float like the middle ones do. Then I have a LOT of little bonus hsts, in the point fabric for the stars, all high contrast dark calicos against white. In EQ, I've only had long one-fabric strips for borders on this - haven't even started trying to replace a border with something using the little triangles! A line of little sawtooth points would be easiest, but I've done that before, and would like to try a new pattern using them. Any suggestions?

Your design is great. I like it much better than the alternate with the one block star and sashing. I'm sure whatever you decide on the border will be great too.

Looks really cool on point but I'm not the one sewing it, LOL.

This is a very nice quilt. I do like the original direction better then on point. I eagerly await the finished project.

this is a beautiful quilt no matter how you set it. sorry I don't have any suggestions for the border, but I'm sure no matter what you decide, it will still be beautiful.

Great job getting all the colors in the right place for the star points. This quilt is really beautiful.

It's looking super - I love the way the squares in the cobblestones seem to float in the air - as you say a pretty simple pattern but it looks so complex when you put it all together - lovely job!

Looks like you have fun playing around with your design program! I like the straight setting best too - and like you said - easier to piece! How about a colored square/white square checkerboard border? Unless you wanted to use your HST - maybe a pieced flying geese border? By the time I get to borders - I usually just slap them on! My next quilt - I made the borders first - clever me - before I was bored with the project!

Cheers!

I'm a fan of the first picture. Can't put my finger on why I just like it. It's amazing how different blocks come to life on the same quilt, by just being set in different directions. You've done an excellent job.

P.S. I hang my quilts on fences for pictures too.

Pretty quilt! I like both settings on the quilt actually! I'm into setting quilts on point a lot lately and have no clue as to why! Anywho - maybe a triple border with the inner border being white the middle border made up from scraps of squares that go with the quilt and the outer border white again???

I prefer the first quilt. When it's set on point you see the squares rather than the stars. I perfer it when the stars are more noticeable. What about a piano key border using the star colors? Or would that be too busy.

Looking good, and I prefer it not on point.Really like the alternate row of cobblestones and snowballs.

AWESOME...love the 9P's in the center of the stars. I think I like the right setting best...it's different! But both are COOL!

Very pretty, I like the straight set best too.

I like both sets, and I love Sisters' Choice, so I like the blocks with sashing, too.

If you want to use the HSTs, but not the traditional sawtooth, I have two suggestions. One is to alternate directions - that gives more of a sideways flying geese kind of look - sort of. The other is what I'm doing with some of mine. Look back at my blog at teh 7-16 archive week. On 7-19, I posted my border that has no quilt yet. It's made from my bonus HSTs.

Of course, you could alwasy make broken dishes or pinwheels blocks out of them and line them down the quilt, but I'm not sure how that would look - don't know what size yours are, either.

The quilt looks great Jane, I really, really like what YOU have done with it...*VBS* It's been one of my favorite patterns since I saw it in an old Country Thread book, years ago. I still have never made one, but someday, I hope..*S*

I think the on point is interesting, but like the straight set better. I don't think all the white triangle side blocks would enthuse me..LOL
Great job!! Oh,almost forgot. The weird seeming names on the children's book I mentioned on Saturday?? The books were writen and I think published in a Scandinavian country. Not sure if it was Sweden or Finland. Jeanne at Spiral has hers from childhood, maybe when the remodel is over, she'd check. They are very odd name, and were to me as a child also.

It is wonderful... and I like it "straight" better than on point. You are doing a terrific job with it!

great looking quilt! I was working on the 9-patches for my Sister blocks before I left for SC. I do like your straight setting better--but isn't is fun to try things out in EQ5 before you decide on the final plan? How about repeating the cobblestones in the border--lots of white, broken up by the little colored squares? it will kind of carry through the sashing..

What a beautiful quilt! The straight set is much prettier, I think.

The stars dominate in the first one; I like it best. Nice work. Hugs Alison.

Jane, Thanks for visiting my blog. I love your advice. Now that you have drawn a smiley face with the dust on your monitor, you can never clean it. It's a work of art! And there to remind you everyday what your priorities are.

Very nice, beautiful quilt!! If you look long enough the stars disappear and you just see the snowballs and the little boxes. Neat! I like the other just as much too!
